* KITTEN KINDY
Why should puppies get all the fun? Most kittens love to socialise too! The critical socialisation period for kittens is between 6 and 14 weeks of age. Beyond 16 weeks of age, many of these apparently harmless bundles of fur tend to become a little more hostile towards their new ‘fur friends’. That’s why it’s important to socialise new kittens when they are still young.

Social cats make the best family members and that’s where Kitten Kindy comes in. Kitten Kindy teaches you how to teach your new kitten the house rules including what’s good behaviour and what’s not. This is particularly important if there are kids at home who may inadvertently poke and prod the cat and pick him or her up in odd ways. It is also important if there are other older pets at home who may not wish to play with a new bundle of furry and clumsy energy!

There’s no doubt kittens are highly entertaining and its great fun to watch one puff up like a toilet brush when his or her reflection is spotted in a mirror. When cats are young, they learn vital skills from their mum and litter mates like how to play nicely and how to toilet appropriately. Some are a little slower than others to learn these things however, and socialisation at Kitten Kindy can help!

The most social cats allow their tummies rubbed, ears pulled and mouth opened. They also tolerate the odd foot (or paw) massage now and then.

Social cats are friendly to visitors and can even be trained to do tricks! Our very own clinic cat (Yoda) has been expertly taught to sit and shake hands (despite being cross-eyed, he can still accurately reach an outstretched hand when politely asked). Of course he is rewarded for his cleverness with a tasty treat!
