General Health Care
From the youngest pets to the oldest pets, preventative health care is the key. This can include:

  • Regular checks with your vet
  • Vaccinations
  • Heartworming
  • Intestinal worming
  • Flea and tick controls

The vets at Allambie Vet will offer you all of the advice you require, together with recommending the best preventative products for each individual pet. Once you are a customer of ours, we set up your profile so you are automatically sent reminders when your pets annual health care checks and vaccinations are due. This takes all of the worry out of you remembering dates and ensures your pet is always up to date with their vaccinations and worming.

Vaccinations form an important part of preventative veterinary care for your pet. Most pets do not show any signs that they have been vaccinated, however, as with humans, some may have a response to the vaccination. Your pet may be quite lethargic for 24 hours after the vaccination, and may develop a short-lived fever. This type of vaccination response is quite common and considered normal. If your pet is not better within 24-48 hours, you should contact us for advice.

    How do vaccines actually work?
A vaccine is a substance containing a small amount of killed or altered virus or bacteria that is injected under the skin. The vaccine stimulates an immune response but does not cause any disease. The immune system then produces antibodies to this harmless impostor. When your pet encounters the "real" virus or bacteria in the future, the body responds very quickly to attack and kill it.
